Members of the 1st Charleville Girl Guides recently spent a weekend communicating with Guides and Scouts from across the globe in the annual JOTI (Jamboree on the Internet). This is one of the biggest events in Guiding and Scouting each year and involves using the Internet to communicate with others. The Guides communicated with others from over 30 different countries and discussed Guiding and Scouting, time zones, weather, hobbies and pets. Many were amazed that there were Guides and Scouts just like them from so many places. The weekend also involved a campfire run by the Guides and an International themed Guides Own which included reflections on why we are so lucky to live in Australia. Special thanks to Charleville School of Distance Education for the use of the iPads and Telstra for their sponsored modem. |
