Travels of Tara the Travelling Lone Guide Doll
Meet Tara, the Queensland Lones travelling Lone Guide Doll. Tara is constantly travelling the country visiting her Queensland Lone Guide sisters. She hopes to meet every single Lone Guide in Queensland, young and old.
Read about Tara's travels below - come back regularly to see what she has been up to. Tara has a twin sister, who is also a Lone Guide Doll. Lucinda is more into camping though and travels to all camps where Lone Guides are present. |
Tara's Travels Begin - Green SLUG Camp, April 2018
Tara the Travelling Lone Guide began her travels by meeting some of the Queensland Lone Girl Guides at the State Lone Unit Gathering (SLUG) at Kindilan Campground in April 2018. She was introduced, along with her twin sister - Lucinda the Lone Guide, to all the participants of the camp.
She saw how these amazing girls worked together, had fun, tried new things and developed new friendships. Tara was amazed at how adventurous these Lone Guides were as they abseiled, bushwalked, canoed, completed challenges, played games and enjoyed the rain! Tara even witnessed a Junior BP award ceremony, a link ceremony and met the Lones Region Manager, 'Kookaburra', and the Qld State Commissioner, 'Thalera'. Huge congratulations to 'Pirra' the camp Leader in Charge and all the Guides and Leaders involved in SLUG. Tara had a brilliant time! |
2nd Charleville Lone Girl Guides - Visiting CSDE, August 2018
After a wonderful week at SLUG, Tara travelled by car for 11 hours to Charleville School of Distance Education (CSDE), base of the 2nd Charleville Lone Guides unit. There she was able to work with 'Kookaburra' on her computer. Tara was amazed at how big the screens are at the school but enjoyed typing on the keyboard and searching the Internet.
Tara spent many months learning how the Girl Guides of Charleville School of Distance Education communicate through emails, Web Conferencing and teleconferencing. The 2nd Charleville Lone Guides meet every Tuesday afternoon sharing screens on the computers and talking 'on-air' and seeing each other using webcams. Tara had to send out some badges and uniforms to the girls - she thought the school's mailroom was a full of bags of mail! |
2nd Charleville Lone Girl Guides - Visiting Eve, August 2018
Tara travelled out to Quilpie in far west Queensland to visit Eve. Though, she was in for a surprise, because she actually got to travel to the Sunshine Coast for a camp as well!! At Quilpie Tara was introduced to Eve's puppy, Banjo - looks like they became great friends too!
Tirrikki Lone Guides - Sydney Jamboree, Sept-Oct 2018
Two Tirrikki Lone Ranger Guides, Amber and Cassie, packed Tara up and took her on her most exciting adventure yet - attending the Sydney Jamboree with 1500 Guides from across Australia and the world.
Despite a few days of rain, Tara and the girls had an amazing time. Tara thanks the girls for their time and is very appreciated that they looked after her for the entire week on camp.
|
The trip started with the long drive from Charleville to Brisbane, followed by a shorter plane trip to Sydney where Tara got to meet lots of new friends and had lots of fun in tents and around Sydney on trains.

2nd Charleville Lones - JOTI, October 2018
Tara followed up her trip to Sydney with a short stay in Charleville, but in that time she was able to visit two 2nd Charleville Lone Guides, Kristy and Savannah, and an Alkira Olave, Angela, as they had an indoor camp for the Jamboree on the Internet. This Jamboree is even bigger than the Sydney one and is held all over the world as Guides and Scouts communicate online. Tara was able to meet lots of Guides and Scouts from all over the world using the Scoutlink Chat.
2nd Charleville Lone Girl Guides - Visiting Renae, November 2018
2nd Charleville Lone Girl Guides - Visiting Savannah, December 2018
Over a couple of weeks Tara got to stay with Savannah at her property south of Charleville. She was able to go horse riding on Savannah's horse, 'Glitterbug'. Tara thought the horse was as nervous as she was as she went for her first horse ride - perhaps it was Tara's bright red hair.
Tara enjoyed her horse riding, even if she did feel like she was going to fall! On the first of December, Tara got to experience her first Christmas celebration and helped Savannah's family put up the decorations, including a Christmas Tree. Tara wishes all the Lone Guides who celebrate this time of year a very Merry Christmas.

2nd Charleville Lone Girl Guides - Visiting Kristy, February 2019
Tara is loving visiting the Charleville girls who live out on properties.
She has been able to watch the amazing sunsets in the outback, see how these girls do school on the Internet and develop her motorbike riding skills - though it seems she needs to learn a bit more about this. This month, Tara visited Kristy who gave Tara some pointers about riding bikes while Tara helped Kristy with her Maths. |
2nd Charleville Girl Guides - Visiting Ebony, May 2019
Tara has travelled back in a western direction to go visit another Charleville Guide - this time Ebony on her station West of Charleville.
Tara was busy getting up at 6am every morning to help feed the poddy calves. She had a great time learning to drive more vehicles, a tractor this time, and riding some chickens - not too sure what the chickens thought of that!! Tara learnt about sun safety, which is so important out west, though she wasn't too pleased about all the reminders to put her hat on. Maybe someone who has a visit from Tara can make her a hat that fits a little better.

2nd Charleville Girl Guides - Visiting Georgia, June 2019
Tara then headed South East of Charleville to visit Georgia and her family, including a new baby! There were lots of people to remember the names of and Tara loved looking after the baby to help the family out. She also went to soccer with the family and met lots of Georgia's friends.
Trailblazer State Centenary Camp, Kindilan, July 2019
Tara and her twin sister, Lucinda (the camping Lone Guide Doll), met up with each other and some of the Lone Guides at the recent Trailblazer State Centenary Camp. They had an awesome week abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, trying some archery and going on the flying fox, not to mention loads of fun art and heritage activities and just some time to catch up with everyone. What an awesome week!!
2nd Charleville Girl Guides - Visiting Pheebe, September 2019
2nd Charleville Girl Guides - Visiting Matilda, October 2019
At Matilda's property Tara was learning how to put a halter on a sheep. She found that 'Lamb, Lamb' liked her. She also got to brush the sheep.
Tara learned to play the guitar and can now play 'Mary Had a Little Lamb'. Tara also feed the horse and climbed a mountain where she got to see the amazing view. Tara could see so many trees and lots of grass. |
2nd Charleville Girl Guides - Visiting Hayley, February 2020
Tara went to visit Hayley and her 9 siblings - it sure was a busy household with lots of smiles and laughter! While Tara was there she went on a trip to Charters Towers to see Frozen II and watched Hayley playing sport.
2nd Charleville Girl Guides - Visiting Lacey, March 2020
2nd Charleville Girl Guides - Visiting Liobhan and Sinead, April 2020
Next I was off to another station in Western Queensland, this time to visit two Girl Guides - sisters: Liobhan and Sinead. While I was there I was able to make gingerbread, feed a poddy calf, read by the fire, play with LEGO and rollerskate. I even had a sash made for me - check out my badges!!
Cecil Plains Guides (part of 2nd Charleville), June 2020
I had been to a school before, having had visited Charleville School of Distance Education, but when I got to visit the Cecil Plains girls, I was able to see where they do Guides at the Cecil Plains State School. The thing I liked best there was the playground!!
I joined in a Guide afternoon with the girls and their leader, Curlew, as they had their link up with Kookaburra at Charleville via the Internet and completed their activities and challenges in one of the classrooms.

Tirrikki Lone Rangers - visiting Juanita, October 2020
Tirrikki lone Rangers - visiting Molli, November 2020
I was tested even more when I visited Molli who wanted me to help her with her High School maths homework! I was an excellent help and turns out I am quite a Mathematician.
Then it was reunion time! Molli took me on a camp at Kindilan where I met up with my Lones twin sister, Lucinda who is always on the look out for a good camping experiencing. |
Tara Has Surgery, 2020 - 2021
From Kookaburra . . .
After all her travels, Tara was starting to show some wear and tear. To be expected considering all the kilometres she has travelled and the camps she has been on. Under the skilful hands of Parakeet, leader at 2nd Charleville Lones, Tara had some surgery. After a bit of a rest to recover she is ready to continue her travels and she is heading back to the big city!! |
Kintakirri Lone Guides - visiting Muk Muk, March 2021
Kintakirri Lone Guides - visiting Felicity, April 2021
Lone Guides - visiting 3 sisters, April 2021
Luckily, I was on my way to visit 3 sisters who are in various Lone Guides units in Bowen.
After spending time there doing activities such as ANZAC Day and performing in a play (and going to the dentist!) Brianna, Keeley, Aislinn and I went on a holiday to Townsville! ow, it was beautiful - I got to see the wonderful blue ocean and beaches from our hotel. I'm still a little tired though - I think I need a rest from travelling for a bit?? |
Tara Goes Into Hiding, 2021 - 2022
From Kookaburra . . .
It seems Tara is worn out! Her journal is full and she has made some amazing memories.
She has now gone to bed, rugged up in her Guide Blanket.
After a well earned rest, she will be back out and about visiting all our Lone Guides around Queensland.
