Last week, Girl Guides from 1st Charleville (local girls) and 2nd Charleville Lones (spread across South West Qld and enrolled at Charleville School of Distanced Education), came together for the Annual Charleville District Promise Ceremony. This is an important time in a Girl Guides life when they either say the Promise for the first time and become official members of Girl Guides or renew their commitment by renewing their Promise and earing their yearly membership star. This year was made special with some mums joining in their renewal of their Promises since they were Brownies and Guides in the past. The Promise is pivotal in all that we do at Girl Guides and gives us purpose and direction.
We also had the induction of two new Junior Leaders. When Guides turn 14, they have the option to become Junior Leaders and assist with running the local unit, working with the younger Guides and helping them with their challenges while continuing their own and developing leadership skills.
This week 1st Charleville Guides held their end of term badge ceremony with girls being presented with the badges they have earned over the last 6 months. Two of these were quite special with sisters, Michelle and Nicole, being presented with their BP and Junior BP awards – the second and third highest awards in Girl Guides, both named after our founder – Lord Baden-Powell. Badge badges have set challenges the girls have to complete and include Outdoors, Service, Patrol System, World Guiding and Guiding Traditions.
