The girls were able to talk online with Guides and Scouts from across Australia and met others from a range of countries including: England, USA, Denmark, Sweden, Philippines, Indonesia, Algeria and Saudi Arabia. The sleepover wasn't all about screen time though! The girls also celebrated the birthday of one of the Girl Guides World Centres, Sangam, India with an Indian meal of butter chicken, rice and naan bread, and the sewing of Indian elephant pillows. All the girls had a great time and loved meeting new Guides and Scouts reminding us that we are a part of a World Organisation.

Girl Guides from across the Major Mitchell Region came together at the Mangalore Scout Camp Ground south of Charleville for 4 days of fun, friendship, challenges and Guiding spirit. Girls from Charleville, Lones, Dalby and Roma came together to complete their Great Bunya Gathering Camp Challenge - a program to prepare Guides for the Great Bunya Gathering, an International Jamboree, in 2015. The girls started the four days by working together to set up camp including putting up their sleeping tents, ridge tents for shade, flag poles, clotheslines and washstands. They also went for a nature walk to explore the beautiful grounds of Camp Mangalore. The second day saw the girls challenged by Promise and Law and Team work scenarios and a patrol catapult competition complete with water bombs. The day ended with cooking their own dinners on the camp fire. On the third day the girls worked in patrols to create rafts, craft activities and ended with a traditional Girl Guide Campfire with songs, skits and a magically colour-changing fire. The last day saw the girls striking camp and finishing with a closing ceremony when the girls received much praise from the leaders and their well-earned badges. |
