Three Guides from 2nd Charleville Lones and two Guides from 1st Charleville attended the State Lones Unit Gathering (SLUG) at Kindilan over the April school holidays. Even though they had to travel so far, some more than a days travel, they had a wonderful time participating in adventurous activities including canoeing, abseiling and bushwalking and Guiding traditions such as a Guides Own, wide game, campfire and ceremonies. The Guides completed challenges and made life long friends. Staying in the new platform tents meant even the rain didn't stop them from having fun. |

1st Charleville Girl Guides held an indoor camp recently with the theme of 'Fairies'. One of our leaders, Brolga, spent a great deal of time planning and organising the camp and the girls had non-stop fun, laughter and learning the entire camp!
Highlights included: a campfire, making caterpillars from grapes and strawberries, washing up after ourselves, playing games, having nachos, sending semaphore messages and spending time with friends.
5 representatives from 1st Charleville Girl Guides travelled to the State Camp near Cairns in September 2017. Despite the distance travelled, a great time was had by all. As one of our members said: WOW....... what an excellent experience found out that there are a lot more girl guides than what I had thought and that no matter where we go we are always together. Guides experienced camping, archery, circus tricks, abseiling, canoeing, snorkelling, stand up paddle boarding, massive slides, messy days, discos, day outs (including Fitzroy Island and Karunda), high and low ropes, obstacle courses and of course building friendships old and new. Thanks to everyone who supported our Guides in their participation in the 2017 Guides Qld State Camp. Guides from 1st Charleville attended a camp in Roma tackling gadget making, outdoor cooking, bush first aid and canoeing. Special thanks to Roma Girl Guides for hosting the event and congratulations to their leader, Konteeki, for completing for camping qualifications.
The Charleville Guides joined the International event of JOTI (Jamboree on the Internet) communicating with a range of Guides and Scouts from across the world using chatrooms. As part of the event the girls had a sleepover with a campfire, World Centre games and writing songs about Guiding. After reading May Gibb's Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, a group of 1st and 2nd Charleville Girl Guides headed out to the Evening Star Tourist Park, north of Charleville, for their own Bush Babies Camp. With Snugglepot, Cuddlepie, Ragged Blossom and Lizard Patrols, the Guides were challenged to camp outdoors for two nights - with many having their first Guide camping experience and some being only 5 years old! With a bush walk or two, putting up tents, making camp fires, cooking on Hexi-stoves, enjoying smores and bread twists, stargazing, craft, Guides Own and generally enjoying the great outdoors the girls have all learnt at least many new skills and made new friends or further developed their current friendships. Congratulations to all the Guides who have achieved the Guides Go Outdoors Badge as a result of a really enjoyable camp.
On Friday night the girls from the 1st Charleville Girl Guides and one from 2nd Charleville Girl Guides participated in a sleepover at the Charleville High School Trade Training Centre as part of the annual Jamboree on the Internet, an International events for Guides and Scouts. The girls used laptops, kindly supplied by Charleville School of Distance Education, to connect with others through web chats via Scoutlink. The girls were able to talk online with Guides and Scouts from across Australia and met others from a range of countries including: England, USA, Denmark, Sweden, Philippines, Indonesia, Algeria and Saudi Arabia. The sleepover wasn't all about screen time though! The girls also celebrated the birthday of one of the Girl Guides World Centres, Sangam, India with an Indian meal of butter chicken, rice and naan bread, and the sewing of Indian elephant pillows. All the girls had a great time and loved meeting new Guides and Scouts reminding us that we are a part of a World Organisation. |
